About the publication of Community Cop Colin: Keeping Safe
With the release of Community Cop Colin: Keeping Safe just around the corner it is time to share some thoughts on this section of the website about what is happening in the coming weeks and months and where we are going next.
I wrote this book nearly 20 years ago when I was still a community police officer. At that time I realised that of the advice we gave school children was conflicting especially when it came to how they should interact with the police. This inspired me to do things differently and changed the way I spoke to pupils in classrooms when I was invited to give talks.
From that the idea to formalise those messages came along and this is how the Community Cop Colin series came about. The first book Keeping Safe is a story about two children who get separated from their parents in a busy high street and remember the story a community police officer told in their classroom about asking a person in uniform for help. The whole theme of the book re-enforces messages of safety and is aimed at 4 to 8 year olds.
