The Community Cop Colin Series was always intended to cover a number of topics about safety and the police that would be both informative, fun and easy for young readers to absorb.
The first draft of the first book “Keeping Safe” was written by Martin nearly 20 years ago. After Martin’s retirement from the Police Service of Scotland in 2019 the project formalised and over a number of months was re-worked to it’s final iteration hitting the shelves in July 2020.
The concept of ‘Community Cop Colin’ was developed with input from Martin’s own operational experience and formal studying he undertook during his career to specialise in various roles.
During the making of this book Martin worked closely with Ian R Ward who created some wonderful designs for the book bringing the characters and situations to life.
Martin continues to work on the series and has a number of additional titles in the works currently all aimed at younger readers and re-enforcing messages of safety and interacting with their surroundings as well as the Police.
In future books Community Cop Colin will be talking about ever present concepts such as road safety, but also more modern ideas such as staying safe online.
